May 24: Truck freight rates for vehicles with a payload of nine tonnes are likely to increase by at least five per cent in the coming week, according to transporters.In the last week, truck rates from Mumbai to most states firmed up due to heavy movement of cargo and a corresponding shortage of vehicles. The rates to Delhi increased by Rs 500 to Rs 13,500, marking a 3.8-per cent hike.
The rates from Mumbai to Haryana and Punjab also rose by around four per cent in the last week. The rates from Mumbai to Jammu increased by 5.8 per cent to Rs 18,000 while those to Srinagar rose by Rs 2,000 to Rs 25,000.
The truck rates to the remaining northern states including Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh fluctuated in a narrow band.
In the western region, the truck rates to Gujarat and Maharashtra remained static. Due to good movement of cargo, the rates from Mumbai to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh firmed up. The Mumbai to Satna (MP) rates went up by 15.3 per cent to Rs 10,500, while truck rates to Jaipurincreased by Rs 500 to Rs 9,000.
Towards the east, rates from Mumbai to Assam and Orissa remained the same due to decreased cargo movement. However, the rates to Mumbai to West Bengal continue to rise due to shortage of vehicles. Rates to Raniganj and Calcutta increased by Rs 200 and 500, respectively.
The truck rates from Mumbai to the southern region came under pressure last week due to shortage of cargo and excess vehicles in the market. Towards Andhra Pradesh, rates to Hyderabad increased by Rs 300 to Rs 5,700. The freight rates from Mumbai to Bangalore recovered by Rs 600 to Rs 9,000 while rates to Coimbatore went up by Rs 300. The rates to Trivandrum (Kerala) decreased by Rs 500 to Rs 14,000.
