TICI plans electric cycles' foray: Taking a cue from the high-profile car and scooter manufacturers, the Chennai-based TI Cycles of India (TICI) is planning to introduce an electric cycle for the Indian roads. The company has already imported prototypes of similar vehicles from Holland and Taiwan to assess the market perception towards them as well as test ride them in the country. The company is also planning to roll out a whole new range of bikes in the geared category. To start with, the company has already introduced the Hercules Topgear, its first five-gear bicycle. This will be followed shortly by a geared bike fitted with shock absorbers.Radisson to set up hotel at Gurgaon: The Delhi-based Unitech group, which recently promoted the five-star Radisson Hotel near the Indira Gandhi Airport, will build another luxury hotel in Gurgaon to be managed by the same US hotel chain. The Rs 45-crore project is being promoted by Unitech group company AB Hotels United for which land has already beenacquired. Unlike the Delhi hotel, which is in the five-star deluxe category, the Gurgaon project will be a four-star hotel. Work on the project will begin by the end of this year and will be completed in three years, company sources said.
Asian firms plan interface with investors: The cash-strapped Asian companies, recently hit by the region's worst currency and economic crises, will come together in Singapore on May 26 and 27 to interact with a large group of global private equity investors. Hong Kong-based Asia Pacific Private Equity Bulletin which has organised the conference as part of its 1998 event said it will be attended by about 70 leading management firms which represent combined fund pool of over US$ 3 billion. National Stock Exchange managing director RH Patel and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd will form part of a delegation from India to the conference.
Change in labour laws sought: Industry cell of Maharashtra unit of Bhartiya Janata Party has stronglystressed the need for amendment of existing factory labour laws which have incidentally become out-dated and old. These acts/laws should be amended immediately after and extensive consultations with small-scale industrial (SSI) units, employees and concerned people. The industry cell has urged the Centre that SSI units with employment upto 50 employees should be exempted from these Acts till abolished and amended.
