Coconut oil prices remained range bound in the primary market here during the week ended May 22. The market opened on weak note on Monday at Rs 38.00 and climbed up to Rs 39 per kg on Wednesday but closed the week lower at Rs 38.25 per kg.However, trade sources feel that the market is likely to go down further in the coming weeks as the Government remain indifferent to the situation. The prices of copra has been ruling below the floor price for last two weeks. However, the State Government despite statements to do wonders has not been doing anything to shore up prices, trade sources said.
They also alleged that Kerafed, despite public postures is not buying copra from the market even at market prices. The Kerafed has earlier announced to procure a substantial amount of copra for shoring up the prices.
To top it all the Cente has not announced the new floor price for copra adding confusion in the market. "The frequent statements by the Government regarding procurement and higher floor prices weredoing more harm than good to the market stability", sources added.
