Wool council to release extra quota
Our Bureau
Mumbai, May 26: The Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) will release additional quota for worsted fabrics for exports to Canada on first-cum-first-serve basis from June 8, 1998. The quantity available for allotment is 1,54,508 square metres. During April 98, WWEPC was given 5 per cent additional quota for worsted fabric exports to Canada while the council asked for a 20 per cent based on its past performance.Last three years, utilisation of quota far outstripped the allocation since additional quota was released. The council has requested 20 per additional release this year too instead of 5 per cent. During December 97, the textile commissioner reserved 15.525 lakh pieces of knitwear to be allocated by Wool & Woollen Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) which has been handling export quota since 1990. However, this quota was not administered by the government and the woollen knitwear exporter members of the council had to approach Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
