M&M signs wage pact with union

Mumbai, May 28: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), on Thursday, announced the signing of a productivity and capacity-linked wage agreement with its union at its tractor plant here. Some of the highlights of this agreement are listed below: Introduction of Mahindra production system based on scientific work measurement and the Toyota production system to enable full and immediate implementation of business re-engineering (BRP); A commitment to increase productivity by 125 per cent with all employees to operate at least two machines at a time and more when required; Induction of an innovative gain-sharing scheme for getting increased output of 15 per cent every year to achieve a target of 1.1 lakh tractors in the third year; IT implementation throughout the plant including the shop floor to ensure accurate information and timely decisions; A motivation scheme to meet peak season's market requirements (during April-June).The new agreement to come into force immediately will beeffective till March 2001. Each worker will gain between Rs 1,960 and Rs 4,300 per month including all direct and indirect costs. The benefits will accrue to 3,600 employees of the tractor division.
