L&T net spurts; SAIL profits dip
Larsen & Toubro net profit has jumped 29 per cent to Rs 531.44 crore for the year ending March, 1998 (Rs 411.35 crore), while Steel Authority of India Ltd's (SAIL) profits slumped to Rs 133 crore during 1997-98 (Rs 515 crore). L&T's sales and service revenue increased by 7 per cent to Rs 5,676.77 crore. SAIL, meanwhile, registered operating profits of Rs 2,497 crore compared to Rs 2,458 crore in 1997.
Nocil net slumps 37% to Rs 38 crore
The National Organic Chemical Industries (Nocil) has posted a 37 per cent drop in its net profit to Rs 37.59 crore for 1997-98, against Rs 59.81 crore in the previous year. The fall is owing to a sharp decline in petrochemical prices. The company is in the limelight due to its proposed sellout plan. The earning per share (EPS) is Rs 3.07 (Rs 4.88).
Rhone-Poulenc net slips 36% to Rs 13 crore
Rhone-Poulenc (India) Ltd has registered a 36 per cent drop in its net profit to Rs 12.90 crore for the year ended March 31, 1998, compared with Rs 20.16 crore a year ago. The board has recommended a lower dividend of Rs 8 a share, against the previous year's Rs 9 a share, payable on all 45-lakh fully paid-up equity shares of Rs 10 each.
