Stress on atomic energy to beat US sanctions
Our Bureau
New Delhi, June 1: Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha seems to have taken adequate caution for the sanctions that had been imposed by the US by increasing allocations for hitherto neglected areas like science and technology, atomic energy, informatics and non-conventional energy. The allocation for S&T has been raised from Rs 1,965 crore to Rs 2,766 crore, for atomic energy it has been raised to Rs 1,566 crore from 1243 crore and non-conventional energy it has been raised to Rs 404 crore from a mere Rs 198 crore. The technology mission has been allocated Rs 60 crore.Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
