Kothari Petrochem plans capex

CHENNAI, June 1: Kothari Petrochemicals Ltd (KPL) is considering an expansion of its caustic soda production capacity from 60 tonnes a day to 100 tonnes. This is based mainly on increasing prices of caustic soda and market demand. The company will also expand production facilities for other products like chlorine to meet the projected rise in demand from Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Ltd (KSCL) for its chloro-toluene and nitro aromatic division, and for merchant sales.According to company sources, KPL also plans to set up two projects as part of its diversification and forward-integration plans. The company looking into the feasibility aspect of setting up a chloro-toluene plant close to the chlor-alkali plant. Technology for the project would come from KRUPP UHDE, the new company formed by KRUPP Koppers and UHDE GmbH. The company is also eying the possibility of setting up a para nitro-phenol manufacturing facility. Para-nitro-phenol is an intermediate in the manufacturing of paracetamol.
