DELHI, June 5: On holding of stock by the stockists in anticipation of further rise in prices, gur dhaiya, on the local market flared upto Rs 1225-1250 from Rs 1150-1200 a quintal and upcountry demand in sugar remained dull because of `Nirjala Ekadashi'. Mill delivery sugar prices slipped by Rs 5 a quintal. Scattered demand in mill delivery sugar Mawana was reported at Rs 1455, Modi at Rs 1412, Dauralla and Titabi at Rs 1420, Bagpat at Rs 1382, Bajpur at Rs 1367 and Khatauli tax paid was offered at Rs 1500 a quintal.Urad declines
Despite sluggish business in pulses, Delhi grains and pulses market displayed a mixed tendency on Friday.
On discouraging Mumbai advices, urad, on the local market declined by Rs 30-35 at Rs 1250-1375 a quintal and business in pulses remained sluggish because of payment crisis. Though arhar on Bhind line ruled firm at Rs 1800 a quintal, yet, on the local market slipped by Rs 10 at Rs 1750 a quintal due to slack demand from dal millers.
Gram Rajasthani improved by Rs10 at Rs 975 a quintal as daily arrivals dipped to 85 lorries from 100 lorries. Wheat dara prices held steady at their previous close on scattered local demand and roller flour mill atta, maida and suji edged up by Rs 3-5 per bag due to decline in production because of power cut. On improved supply from the producing centres, kabligram were down by Rs 25 per quintal.
Edible oils gain
Despite weak palmolein prices, edible oils in the local market recorded gains. Musard laha firmed up by Rs 10-20 a quintal amidst tight supply position and mustard oil recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 40-50 a quintal. As compared to May 28 mustard oil prices shot up from Rs 3700-3775 to Rs 3900-3940 a quintal.
Sunflower and cottonseed oils, too, moved up by Rs 20-30 a quintal as sunflower crop in Northern India was destroyed due to unfavourable weather conditions. Palmolein in Malaysia was down by $50 to $ 657 a tonne and in Mumbai, it ruled easy at Rs 3780 a quintal.
Almond slumps
On higher release by thecustoms coupled with slack demand, almond Afghani slumped by Rs 100-150 per 40 kgs and Pistachio Irani and Peshwari slipped by Rs 10 a kg. Copra Tiptur tumbled down by Rs 100 at Rs 5200 a quintal because of sluggish demand while on third week of April, it was priced at Rs 7000 a quintal.
Silver coins static
Silver on firm New York advices recorded a sharp rise of Rs 75 a kg. and gold on the Delhi bullion market also revealed a firm tendency on Friday.
New York silver future improved to 525 cents from 519 cents an ounce and inflow of imported silver on Thursday declined to 3000 kgs. from 10,000 kgs, consequently, on strong demand from Rajasthan and Calcutta buyers, spot silver .999 recorded a sharp rise of Rs 75 at Rs 7650 a kg. and silver weekly delivery, on speculative support firmed up by Rs 45 at Rs 7630 a kg.
Silver coins remained unchanged at Rs 10300-10400 per 100 pieces.
Gold in London held steady at $293 an ounce, but gold biscuit and standard mint gold edged up by Rs 5-10 at Rs4245 and Rs 4260 per 10 gram respectively due to restricted supply. Gold sovereign remained unchanged at Rs 3500-3525 per 8 gram. According to a local trader, demand in gold from jewellers was reported negligible.
B Twill easy
B. Twill, Harapatta and hessians ruled easy due to poor offtake and easy advices from Calcutta on the local jute goods market. Twines and old gunny bags were unchanged.
Cone yarn firm
Waste Yarn (2) marked up by Rs 2 at Rs 118-122 per bundle as waste cotton prices edged up by Rs 1-1.50. In hank and cone yarn also, mostly counts firmed up by Rs 2-5 per bundle on the back of Rs 10-15 rise in deshi cotton which induced millers to quote their rates higher. Hosiery yarn lacked offtake and most of the counts held unchanged.
Mercury flares up
Camphor powder and slab firmed up by Rs 7 at Rs 120 and Rs 135 per kg. on news of sales prices hike by the manufacturers. Mercury flared up by Rs 300 at Rs 11000 per 34.5 kgs.
Titanium dioxide China, TTK and RC-822marked up by Rs 1-4 per kg. due to declining indigenous and imported inflow. Sodium hydro sulphite Kalali edged up by Rs 2 at Rs 62 per kg. in expectation of Rs 5 sales price hike. In the current week, these prices have gone up by Rs 4 per kg.
Thymol shot up by Rs 20 at Rs 320 per kg. on better local buying. Menthol bold held steady whereas menthol flake and mentha oil eased by Rs 5 per kg. Sodium hydro sulphite China and Gulshan slipped by Re 1 per kg.
Bombay Dyeing citric acid was reported to have been hiked by the manufacturers by Rs 250, hence, citric acid China shot up further by Rs 50 per 50 kgs.
Nickel plate higher
Following steady overseas advices coupled with meagre inflow to markets here, nickel plate firmed up by Rs 3-5 per kg. Zinc slab edged up by 25 paise per kg. on sales deals made about 10-15 tonnes for Muradabad, Aligarh, etc.
Zinc dross edged up by 50 paise per kg. on increased demand. Copper utensil, mixed scrap and accessories edged up by 50 paise per kg. Tin solder (40per cent) firmed up by Rs 5 at Rs 150 per kg. due to higher tin ingot prices. Other metals were unchanged.
