"G-8 plans to rubber stamp US policy on India N-tests"
The invitation of the world's eight most powerful countries to four developing countries to join their gathering has been dismissed by peace campaigners as a bid to "rubber stamp" the major powers' policy on Indian and Pakistani nuclear tests. This becomes evident from the fact that these countries were invited only to the lunch and not to the actual discussions meaning that these four countries had no input into the final communique.
Govt to hold talks with EU on steel subsidy issue this month
The Centre begins parleys with the European Union Commission later this month on anti-subsidy cases against Indian steel exports, after having lost the subsidy battle over antibiotics. The Union commerce ministry has proposed June 23 as the date for pre-initiation consultations with the European Union on alleged subsidies on stainless steel fine wires.
Maharashtra accounts for 28% of total automobile investments
Maharashtra accounts for nearly 28% of the investments in the Rs 45,000-crore automobile industry. The motor vehicle population has increased to five million vehicles in 1998. There were 5,526 motor vehicles per lakh of population in 1998 as compared to 3,353 in 1991 and 1,309 in 1981.
