Gulf Oil net profit up at Rs 8.69 crore: Gulf Oil India Ltd has registered a net profit of Rs 8.69 crore for the financial year 1997-98 compared with Rs 5.03 crore in the last 10 months of 1996-97. The turnover of Gulf Oil, a Hinduja group company, increased by Rs 98 crore to Rs 251 crore during the last fiscal, a company release said. The company has declared a dividend of 37 per cent and recorded an earnings per share of Rs 9.16. This performance was achieved despite the decline in industrial growth to 4.2 per cent and automotive industry experiencing a significant downturn, it said and added. The production at the two factories at Silvassa and Calcutta totalled 48,768 kilo litres (kl) as against 27,428 kl in the previous ten-month period.NPCIL's operating capacity reaches all-time high: Total operating capacity of all the 10 units of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) reached an all time high of 1710 mw on Monday. The overall capacity factor of NPCIL at 71 per cent duringthe year 1997-98 was also the highest ever registered by the corporation, NPCIL said in a release. The capacity factor was 60 per cent in 1995-96 and 67 per cent in 1996-97, the release said, adding that two units each at Chennai, Narora and Kakrapar atomic power stations were operating at full capacity. The gross power generation from all the NPCIL plants since their commencement of commercial operation has crossed 120 billion units.
BHEL commissions second plant in Oman: Public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned a second 30 mw gas turbine based power plant in Oman. The unit, synchronised with the ministry of electricity and water's grid, achieved the full load of 30 mw on Sunday, a BHEL release said. BHEL had bagged the Rs 56 crore turn-key order amidst stiff competition from international bidders for setting up a gas based project for Oman Cement Company (OCC). The new plant, executed within a tight schedule in association with its local partner Oman National ElectricCompany (ONEC), will provide uninterrupted power supply to OCC, it added.
Autoroaming facility for cellphone users: Global Connect, an alliance of 21 cellular networks, on Monday launched its autoroaming facility in the four metros - Delhi (Essar Cellphone), Mumbai (BPL Mobile), Calcutta (Command) and Chennai (Skycell). Autoroam subscribers travelling between the four metros will retain the same 10-figure cellphone number, regardless of their location. "This is a significant step ahead from plastic roaming - where users were required to change cards as they changed cities. Kajaria Ceramics to pay 10% dividend: Kajaria Ceramics Ltd on Monday declared a dividend of 20 per cent for the year ended march 31, 1998. The company, which manufactures ceramics tiles, registered a profitbefore interest, depreciation and tax of Rs 36.63 crore against a turnover of Rs 136 crore, a company release said. One fifth of the company's sale has come from exports of tiles to the middle east, Canada and South Asian countries, it added.
