MUMBSI, June 15: The German-based TUV Bayern will conduct test-runs for the Skoda Felicia and Audi on Indian roads soon. Four Felicia models, which have already landed here, will cover 12,500 km within the next two months.Sources told The Financial Express that a high-level technical team will also arrive here on Friday. Indian drivers have been engaged for the tests and the TUV Bayern will compare the behaviour of Indian and European drivers, study temperature and road conditions, gear and brake servicing and wheel balancing. TUV Bayern had already conducted test runs for the Felicia last November and December covering over 7,500 km. Changes have been made following the the tests, including increase in distance between street and car body and change in the wheel dimension taking into account the availability of spare parts. TUV, which was established in 1870 to perform inspections on behalf of the German government, has issued 1,800 certificates worldwide.
TUV Bayern was accredited to provide theTUV CERT certificate and it has been accredited by Deutsche Akkreditarungs Rat, which is the accreditation body of Germany. TUV Bayern is a European Union-notified body appointed by the German government and it has been accredited to grant Registrar Accreditation Board certification. TUV is a state-accredited European organisation, authorised to perform mandatory inspections, testing and auditing on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union.Volkswagen has planned an Rs 1,100 crore project at Shendre near Aurangabad in the Marathwada region with an investment of Rs 3,500 crore.
Volkswagwen, through its subsidiary, Skoda, plans to produce 50,000 cars in the first phase going up to 100,000 vehicles. The first models to roll out will be the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen's Audi A6, followed by the Skoda Felicia. The cars will come in petrol and diesel versions. Volkswagen still has not reached a decision on the equity sharing pattern in the project. A Skoda team led by head of personnel,Bayer has recently visited Shendre. Bayer, who was accompanied by Inder Hassen, project director (India), examined the living conditions and housing avenues at Shendre.
