Dinesh Vyas to explain N-blasts to NRIs, US

OUR BUREAU
MUMBAI, June 15: Close on the heels of sanctions imposed by the US, the Indian government has embarked on a PR exercise to explain to the international community as also the NRIs its justification for the nuclear blast.

In this regard, Dinesh Vyas, a noted tax expert and Supreme Court advocate, has been invited by various bodies in the US like the Indian American Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Indian Association and Massachusetts Institute of Technology to analyse and discuss the ramifications of nuclear blast and the Union budget.

Vyas, known for his Budget speech after Nani Palkhivala, is leaving India on Monday night on a three-week whistle stop tour to the US and address gatherings and meet business community both Indian and American in Washington, New York, Boston and Chicago. It has been felt both in the governmental officialdom and in the private sector domain that a strong public opinion needs to be created in India's favour. The Indian case needs to be explained with clarity and force.

TheIndian embassy has taken upon itself to put India on her rightful position and is coordinating and supporting the Indian bodies in organising meetings of this kind.

It may be mentioned that the government has also asked RPG patriarch RP Goenka to play the role of economic diplomat to smoothen economic relations with Japan. Last year, Goenka was conferred the "Order of the Sacred Gold and Silver Star" by the Japanese emperor. In fact, Goenka was personally briefed by the prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Earlier, the BJP-government realising the importance of diplomatic and economic efforts had deputed to US, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission Jaswant Singh as its official spokesperson.
