Tap alternative sources of funding, say trade chambers
Our Corporate Bureau
NEW DELHI, June 22: To counter sanctions, industry chambers CII and Assocham have suggested that domestic industry tap alternative sources of funds and technology. Chamber sources said that though it was not yet possible to gauge the exact impact and extent of the sanctions on the industry, corporates should tap sources of funds in Europe and elsewhere as a counter-measure. Assocham said a joint task force should be set up comprising the government and industry representatives. The group should take stock of the situation and suggest measures to tackle the situation, said an Assocham spokesperson. CII's action plan includes setting up an advisory group and helpline to assist Indian and foreign companies on information-gathering, interface with the centre and other governments, assist companies looking for alternative sources of technology and financing, export opportunities and search for partners for joint venture and technology acquisition. The Confederation of Indian Industry further plans tocommunicate with select heads of government, select industry associations and chambers and with select chief executive officers of major multinational firms.
