Tokyo, June 23: Nissan Motor Co president Yoshikazu Hanawa said on Tuesday that a decision could be reached as early as July or August on some areas in which it is considering a tie-up with Daimler-Benz AG.He added however, that talks regarding Daimler's possible purchase of shares in Nissan-affiliated truck-maker Nissan Diesel Motor Co would take some time.
``My feeling now is that we might be able to make (a decision on) one or two items by July or August,'' Hanawa told a news conference to launch Nissan's new Presage minivan.
He said Nissan had been talking with Daimler for almost a year on possible cooperation in a number of areas in technology, sales and production of commercial vehicles, and that project teams had been formed to consider more than 10 different areas.
He said it could take some time to reach a decision on the possibility of Daimler taking a controlling stake in Nissan Diesel, although this was not the most important of the items under discussion between the two firms.
