New Delhi, June 23: The turmoil in the stock market has thrown open opportunities in stocks which are trading cum-dividend on the bourses. On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), as many as 18 such scrips are currently trading at yields in the region of 17-10 per cent.As the prices are dipping by the day, the yield on these scrips are also going up. On an average, this yield will accrue to the investors within the next three months, that is on the record date (which could even be fixed earlier giving the investors an even higher yield).
Thus, on an annualised basis this will, at least, be between 78 per cent and 40 per cent. Important among these are Alok Textiles, GE Shipping, Maral Overseas, Machino Plast and Hindustan Motors.
With 16.67 per cent, Alok Textiles gives the highest yield at the current price of Rs 12. On a Rs 197.35-crore sales, the company has reported a net profit of Rs 10.22 crore for the fiscal 1998. While the company's sales had spurted by 17.5 per cent, net profit jumped by 67 percent. The company's board has proposed a dividend of 20 per cent for the fiscal 1998.
For fiscal 1998, GE Shipping Ltd has reported a 28.5 per cent spurt in net profit to Rs 164.23 crore. The company's board has recommended a dividend payout at the rate of 40 per cent. This gives an yield of 13.75 per cent as the GE Shipping scrip on the BSE is trading at Rs 29.10.
Buoyed by a 117 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 11.77 croer during fiscal 1998, the Carbon Everflow board has recommended a 30 per cent dividend. On BSE, the Carbon Everflow scrip is currently trading at Rs 22.25 which translates into an yield of 13.5 per cent.
Though Machino Plast, for fiscal 1998, has reported a 15 per cent drop in sales to Rs 35.55 crore, its net profit had grown by a whopping 218 per cent to Rs 3.53 crore. The company board had recommended dividend payout at the rate of 20 per cent. Going by the current market price of Rs 20, the yield from the Machino Plast scrip works out to 10 per cent.
