Finally, Indians get serious about Y2K
There have been some reversals of late. The Y2K, or the crisis arising out of writing the last two digits of a year, is at last being looked at as a problem in Indian organisations, while all along it was seen as an opportunity for the IT industry to make it big. Another remarkable change which has come over in some of the Indian companies is that the chief executives and MDs are committed to solving the Y2K problem.
Oriental dreams in the Lion City
The tiny, exotic island known as `Temasek' or Sea Town, later renamed as `Singha Pura' or Lion City - and today better known worldwide as Singapore, is an excellent example of how people of diverse race and creed can live and work together in harmony, even while retaining their own distinctive cultures. Because of its friendly duty-free laws, Singapore has long been a diehard shoppers' paradise.

Poets have a way with justice. So, sometimes, do industrialists, especially those propelled by performance rather than pedigree. Dhirubhai Ambani, setting up Asia's largest refinery, has poached experts at the implementation stage itself from none other than his first employer in Aden, Shell.
