MUMBAI, July 2: Pivotals dropped sharply on heavy bull liquidation and selling pressure in selected scrips by foreign funds at National Stock Exchange yesterday. The NSE-50 (Nifty) opened at 941.65, touched a low of 918.10 and closed at 919.90, showing a sharp fall of 22.35 points from the last close of 942.25. The Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) opened at 773.60, declined to a low of 749.40 and closed at 750.70, with a fall of 23.10 points from the last close of 773.80.Nifty junior (Midcap) opened at 1335.05, slumped to a low of 1313.85 and closed at 1316.85, showing a loss of 18.75 points from the previous close of 1335.60.
The total traded value was Rs 824.93 crores from 306.45 lakh shares and in 1,20,758 trades. Debentures traded value was Rs 9.73 lakhs. The exchange witnessed 339 scrips advance, 563 scrips decline and 79 scrips remain unchanged. Around 21 securities had hit their price bands today, the nse said. Among the top 25 traded securities, the prominent five ITC with a turnover of Rs 202.82 crore,Satyam Computers with Rs 135.70 crore, HLL with Rs 78.92 crore, Reliance with Rs 69.71 crore and Pentafour Software with Rs 45.46 crore.
Reliance at Rs 142.40 (Rs 142.25) was the sole Nifty gainer. The top five Nifty losers were Ashok Leyland Rs 35.85 (Rs 39.55), HLL Rs 1507.35 (Rs 1613.55), EIH Rs 208.00 (Rs 221.30), Indian Hotels Rs 396.65 (Rs 419.50) and BPCL Rs 317.10 (Rs 335.00).
