John Fowler net up 37% to Rs 2.5 croreJohn Fowler (India) Ltd has reported a 37 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 2.54 crore on the back of strong sales for the year ended March 1998. Turnover shot up by 39 per cent to Rs 23.79 crore. However, the dividend has been maintained at Rs 2.50 per share. The company is in talks with Filterwerk Mann+Hummel of Germany for the manufacture of industrial and automotive filters.
LG Electronics unveils new washing machines
LG Electronics India has launched a new range of semi-automatic washing machines. The new models being introduced in the Punch Wash series of semi-automatic washing machines with this technology are WP 8002 and WP 8003. The punch+pulsator technology is a feature unique to these machines. It is an efficient process which results in gushing upward movement of water in the wash tub, thereby removing dirt effectively.
Samsung launches mini audio system
Samsung India Electronics has supplemented its audio range in the countryby launching the Max 810 mini system with a 700-watt PMPO. The system, priced at Rs 15,950, has been launched simultaneously all over the country. Some of the hi-tech features of the new system include demo display, three-mode preset equaliser and super bass sound (SBS). The SBS function makes the low frequency sound more audible and clear.
BIFR to ask 3 firms to wind up
The BIFR has decided to wind up three ailing private sector companies, Teletek India Ltd, Saket Roofings Ltd and Calcutta Silk Manufacturing Company Ltd, as the prospects of their revival on a long-term basis seem remote. No viable and mutually agreed upon rehabilitation proposals were available in spite of sufficient opportunities given to the parties. Efforts to change the management of the three companies have also failed.
Methodex launches Konica photocopiers
Methodex Infres has launched Konica photocopiers in India. Konika makes a versatile range of copiers with speeds varying between 12 copies to 92 copies perminute. The copiers have modern accessories such as an automatic document feeder, copy sorters, collaters and staplers. Other features include password facility and toner recycling system. Methodex Infres has been selling Konica copiers for the last 15 months on a trial basis.
HLL to achieve Y2K compliance by Oct-end
Hindustan Lever is all set to achieve Y2K compliance by October 31, 1998. Addressing a CII seminar on the Year 2000 problem, David Buckle, director (finance), HLL, said that an early completion of a Y2K solution would enable the company to test and correct any possible errors.

Japan to hold fair for small enterprises
The Confederation of Asia PacificChambers of Commerce & Industry is organising the Dynamic Asia Small and Medium Enterprises Fair in Osaka, Japan, from September 9 to 11. MVIRDC World Trade Centre, Mumbai, is extending cooperation for small and medium companies to promote their goods in Japan.
