NSE miffed over delay in stock-lending
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is miffed over the decision of UTI and the Stock Holding Corporation of India (SHCIL) to delay stocklending activities by pushing back the deadline for the same by another two months. The NSE had been approached by UTI and SHCIL to join hands with it after the exchange itself decided to become a stocklending intermediary.
Tea traders pledge to guard "Darjeeling" label
Tea planters in India's Himalayan town of Darjeeling have launched a campaign to protect ``Darjeeling'' branded tea from alleged foreign imitation. A Belgium watchdog agency, Compumark, has been appointed on March 1, 1998, to detect use of the word ``Darjeeling'' in branded tea in the international market.
Centre to permit palmolein futures soon
The Centre and the Forward Markets Commission are likely to formally clear applications for futures trading in palmolein around mid-1998. Permission for an additional centre for turmeric futures may also be granted.
