BJP still keen on consensus for deputy speaker election
Our Bureau
New Delhi, July 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party's efforts were on to arrive at a consensus for the post of deputy speaker of Lok Sabha, said party vice president Krishan Lal Sharma. He said with the Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson's post going to Congress, the Lok Sabha deputy speaker's post should be with the BJP as it was the largest partner in the ruling coalition. However, he evaded a reply when asked on Congress leader Sharad Pawar's comment that Congress was in favour of a non-BJP candidate for the post. "We will try to reach a consensus for this post", Sharma said.On CTBT, he said that the government should stick to its earlier stand of not signing it in its present form. Sharma said the country should remain firm on its stand and it had to be seen what emerged from the dialogue India was having with the United States, referring to the meeting of deputy chairman of planning Commission Jaswant singh with U.S Deputy secretary of state Strobe Talbott in Frankfurt on Thursday.
