Garware Wall Ropes net up at Rs 6 crore

Garware Wall Ropes Ltd has registered a rise in net profit to Rs 5.65 crore for the year 1997-98, against Rs 1.90 crore in the previous year. Turnover was down at Rs 119.20 crore, as compared with Rs 119.26 crore last year. The board of directors has recommended a dividend of 18 per cent. Term loan liabilities decreased to Rs 20 crore (Rs 28 crore). Interest costs also dropped to Rs 8.25 crore, as compared with Rs 11.16 crore in the previous year.

Mafatlal Dyes net up at Rs 46 lakh:

Mafatlal Dyes & Chemicals Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 45.69 lakh for the quarter ended June 30, 1998, against Rs 43.53 lakh during the corresponding period last year. Net sales dropped marginally to Rs 17.19 crore during the period from Rs 17.34 crore in the same period last year. The company said that efforts to improve sales were hampered by inadequate supplies of a number of products markets by the company and the recession in the textile industry.

BirlaEricsson Optical board meet:

Birla Ericsson Optical Ltd has convened a meeting of the board of directors on July 29, 1998, to consider and take on record the unaudited financial results (provisional) of the company for the quarter ended June 1998.

Kinetic Engineering board to meet on July 21:

The board of directors of Kinetic Engineering Ltd (KEL) will meet on July 21 to consider the unaudited financial results (provisional) for the quarter ended June 30, 1998.

Hoechst Marion Roussel board to meet on July 23:

The board of Hoechst Marion Roussel will meet on July 23, 1998, to take on record the unaudited financial results of the company for the quarter ended June 30, 1998.

Bayer India board to meet on July 27:

The Board of Bayer India will meet on July 27, 1998, to take on record the unaudited results for half year ended June 30, 1998.

Goodyear India CMD:

Neville P Moos has taken over from RL Swanson as the chairman and managing director (CMD) of Goodyear IndiaLtd with effect from July 1. Moos was director (marketing and sales) Asia region of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, US. Moos traces his roots to Mumbai and has spent some years in Goodyear India as sales and marketing director.

Microsoft offering:

Microsoft Corporation on Friday unveiled its latest offering Windows 98 in Bangalore. The special features of the new system include ability to easily add and remove peripheral devices with support for Universal Serial Bus (USB) and the ability to converge a personal computer and television. It keeps the user PC up-to-date via Windows update, a web-based extension to Windows 98 and can download web content without tying up phone lines.

Radisson ties up with Jet Airways:

Radisson Hotel Delhi has tied up with Jet Airways to offer a special privilege for all Jet Airways passengers flying Club Premiere. The hotel will offer a room on the exclusive Radisson Plaza Club floor for the first night with its compliments. Radisson Plaza Clubfacilities include complimentary airport-hotel-airport limousine transfers, breakfast served in the Plaza Club lounge, in-room tea/coffee maker, local calls and happy hours, according to a company release.

Intercontinental Consultants bags overseas contract:

Civil engineering firm Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt Ltd (ICT) has bagged an overseas contract in the Lao People's Democractic Republic. The contract is for the Asian Development Bank-aided rural roads development project. This is the third overseas contract secured by ICT within this year. Earlier, the company was awarded a consultancy contract in Mongolia for the ADB-funded second road development project, which commenced in March. Again on June 6 this year, it signed a contract for construction supervision of 184 kilometre Darhan-Erdenet Road in Mongolia, which is being funded by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

A clarification:

With reference to the news item `Search Chem may be merged with UnitedPhosphorus' in The Financial Express dated July 6, United Phosphorus Ltd has clarified that it has no plans of merger with Search Chem Industries Ltd.
