PNB's Bihar zone profit up 52% to Rs 33 crore

Patna, July 12: The Punjab National Bank (Bihar zone) has achieved profit of Rs 33.09 crore during the last financial year 1997-98, according to the bank's zonal manager, PN Khurana. Khurana said the PNB (Bihar) had, for the first time, achieved 52.21 per cent higher profit at Rs 33.09 crore last year as against Rs 21.74 crore earned in the previous year (1996-97). Talking about the deposits of the zone he said the deposits have registered a remarkable growth of 20.28 per cent from Rs 446.70 crore to Rs 2649.94 crore. He said advances too had gone up to Rs 671 crore as against Rs 611.86 crore at the end of March 1997. The zone had achieved a recovery percentage of 51.58 per cent, which Khurana said was "highest-ever" after the implementation of the prudential norms. Referring to the priority sector adavnces, the zonal manager said advances amounted to Rs 440 crore during the last financial year posting a growth of ten per cent over previous year.
