NIIT launches Swift Accountant package: NIIT has launched Swift Accountant programme to train accounting professionals and commerce students in computerised financial accounting. The company has a strategic alliance with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and as their "premier training partner" will provide training on the new business accounting software "E X Next Generation". The swift accountant programme is of 19 weeks duration.

New LAN solution: Cabletron Systems has introduced a new RoamAbout LAN solution that delivers standards-based wireless networking for health, government and retail organisations. "Cabletron's wireless LAN solution is effective for clinical-data capture in hospitals, trading on stock-exchange floors and real-time information access on corporate intranets", said Uday Birje, director India and SAARC, Cabletron Systems. "It solves many of the problems traditional, wired networks face, such as cable exposure to sensitive electronic environments, or constantly moving endusers".

Bharat Forge board meet: The board of directors of Bharat Forge will meet on July 24 to take on record the unaudited financial results of the company for the quarter ended June 30, 1998.

Sudarshan Chemicals board meet: The board of directors of Sudarshan Chemicals Industries will meet on July 30 to take on record the unaudited provisional financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 1998.

Alfa Laval bags order: Alfa Laval (India) has bagged a repeat order for the expansion of Tata Chemical's de-salination plant in Mithapur, Gujarat. The multi-crore order comes 14 years after the first and comprises four heater bodies, evaporator bodies and circular housings, weighing 177 tonnes. The plant will be fully designed and built at ALIL's Pune plant.

Bharat Electronics to make laser equipment: Bharat Electronics is shortly taking up the manufacture and marketing of a medical laser equipment known as Drishti-1064 at its Pune unit. The Drishti-1064 is used for the photodisruption application in ophthalmology. The Drishti-1064 was designed by a Defence Research and Development Organisation laboratory viz. the Defence Science Centre (DScC), New Delhi which has expertise in the development of defence laser systems.

Helpline service launched: LML has launched a toll-free helpline service to allow customers in the capital easy access for any kind of information and assistance on its new offering Supremo'98. This service allows calls from all electronic exchanges for which charges will be borne by the company. The calls can be made on the number 1-600-16-4444 initially from anywhere in Delhi. Subsequently as MTNL extends the service the facility would cover the entire country.

Honda Siel opens dealer facility: Honda Siel Cars India's president and CEO, T Fujisaki inaugurated Southend Honda, the Honda Exclusive Authorised Dealership (HEAD), in New Delhi on Tuesday. This is the second HEAD in the capital. Southend Honda operates with sales, services and sparesfacilities under one roof and is fully equipped to fulfill all the automotive requirements of customers. The first HEAD in Delhi called Ring Road Honda was set up in January 1998.

Neville P Moos appointed Goodyear chief: Neville P Moos has taken over from RL Swanson as the chairman and managing director of Goodyear India Ltd with effect from July 1. Moos was director -- marketing and sales - Asia region of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, US. Moos traces his roots to Mumbai and has spent some years in Goodyear India as sales and marketing director.

Rites offers consultancy service: Rail India Technical Economic Services (Rites) has started providing consultancy for certification in ISO 14000 environmental management systems. These systems work for prevention of pollution, legislative compliance with environmental regulations, reduction in wastes and conservations of natural resources, said an official pres release. Rites, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Qas ofAustralia and maintains close association with the American Society of Quality Control, provides services in quality management functions of railway systems in 17 countries including Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Vietnam and Malaysia, it said.

Matsushita target: Matsushita Airconditioning India Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between the US$ 62 billion Matsushita group of Japan and the Videocon group, plans to sell 30,000 split and window airconditioners in 1999, the first year of operations at its upcoming factory near Chennai. The target would be half of the per-shift capacity at its plant in Sriperumbudur and had been fixed in view of the tough market conditions, said Seiji Maekawa, managing director of Matsushita Aircon.

Nokia to sponsor IIT students: The US$9.8 billion Finnish telecom major Nokia will sponsor Indian students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the company announced in New Delhi today. As a part of partnership programme with IIT, experts on very large scale integration(VLSI) design from Nokia research centre in Germany will instruct students here. The partnership programme will last for three years.
