46 sugar co-ops owe Rs 101 cr to workers as wages

MUMBAI, July 14: Forty-six of the total 117 sugar cooperative factories from Maharashtra owes Rs 101 crore to workers towards their salaries since 1993. The workers unions have blamed the state government for its "lackadisical" approach and called for stern action against the concerned factories and give guarantees to such cooperatives to seek bank loans.

The list of some of these factories include: Satpuda-Tapi (Dhule August 1997-March 1998 - PK Anna Patil (Congress)- Rs 7.13 crore, Ambejogai-Beed July 1996 to November 1996 (run by brother of deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde) - Rs 4.25 crore, Panzarawan-Dhule (closed) May 1996 to June 1998- Rs 4.35 crore, Godavari-Dudhani (Parbhani) - June 1996 to May 1998 - Rs 5.49 crore, Girna (Nashik) - April 1993 to May 27, 1998 - Rs 6.10 crore, Jijamata (Buldhana) (closed) - October 1994 to June 1998 - Rs 4.87 crore, Marathwada (Parbhani) (closed) -40 months salary - Rs 4.93 crore, Shetkari (Dhamangaon) (closed) - January 1996 to June 1998 - Rs 4.74 crore, Balaji(Akola) (closed) - March 1996 to June 1998 - Rs 4 crore, Sant Eknath (Aurangabad) (closed) - July 1996 to June 1998 - Rs 4.25 crore, Kannad (Aurangabad)- August 1997 to June 1998 - Rs 2.93 crore, Devgiri (Aurangabad) (closed) - March 1997 to June 1998 - Rs 2.10 crore, Gajanan (Beed run by former congress MP Kesarkaku Kshairsagar) (at present closed) - July 1996 to June 1998 - Rs 2.13 crore, Belganga (Jalgaon) - January 1998 to June 1998 - Rs 2.50 crore, Vasant (Jalgaon) - Rs 3.25 crore, Kalamber (Nanded) (closed) - June 1996 to till date - Rs 2 crore, Siddheshwar (Aurangabad - run by Congress leader Manikrao Palodkar) (at present closed) - January 1998 to June 1998 - Rs 1 crore, Parner (Ahmednagar) (closed) - December 1996 to till date - Rs 1.33 crore, Jagdamba (Ahmednagar) (closed) - January 1997 to January 1998 - Rs 2.11 crore, Manganga (Sangli) - January 1998 to June 1998 - Rs 1.40 crore.
