Coke scores over Pepsi despite trailing in six cities
Coca-Cola India garnered over 56 per cent of the softdrinks market in May this year to lead arch rival Pepsico India's 40 per cent, despite trailing in six cities, a study reveals. Figures from the survey conducted by the market research agency ORG-Marg hired by Coca-Cola India (CCI), indicated that CCI brands mustered 56.6 per cent of the market in 23 cities where the survey was conducted.

Unilever blazes trail in Vietnam
Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant Unilever expects sales in Vietnam to top $100 million this year and sees bright prospects for growth, a sharp contrast to many firms struggling to make money in the country. Chairman of Unilever in Vietnam Jacques Ferriere said the company's products, including soaps, shampoos and toothpaste, reached every corner of this largely rural nation.

World's top brewers want to slake thirst
Beer sales in Ghana dropped 18% in 1997, but, undeterred, some of the world's biggest brewers are lining up to pour money into the country. Since last October, three companies, Guinness, Heineken and South African Breweries have pumped about $30 million into the brewing sector. "Per capita consumption is less than five litres per year, while people in neighbouring Ivory Coast and Togo down eight or nine litres," said managing director Steve Wilkinson of Guinness Ghana.
