VSNL unveils SIM cards for Mini-M users: The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has launched SIM cards for the users of Inmarsat's global mobile phone service, Mini-M. With these prepaid SIM cards, Inmarsat Mini-M users will have the flexibility to use their Mini-M terminals anywhere in the Indian Ocean region. This will also provide world-wide connectivity including fax and data transfer services. The VSNL SIM card users will be able to buy satellite air-time in slabs of 100, 200 and 500 minutes at the rate of Rs 86 per minute and an initial subscription fee of Rs 1,000. The Mini-M service is primarily targeted at international business travellers and people working at remote sites as well as for terrestrial cellular extension.Van Heusen launches trousers: Madura Garments, a division of Coats Viyella Ltd has introduced ready-made trousers under their premium brand Van Heusen. The trousers come in two ranges, `European' and `Progressive'. The European range of formal trousers come in poly wooland poly viscose blends. These trousers are high waisted for a trim look. While the Progressive range comprises semi-formals in cotton and cotton blended fabrics in contemporary colours like stone and khakhi. Priced between Rs 795 and Rs 1095, the trousers are available in exclusive Van Heusen showrooms, premium mens wear outlets and at Shoppers' Stop.
All India Business Directory on CD-Rom: Explore Technology, a Mumbai-based software development company has launched `Explore-India', an all India Business Directory on CD-Rom. Explore-India has over 3,500 business categories culled from 400 cities. Listing in Explore-India has been kept free. A full fledged search is available in the business category including details like company name, city and telephone number. Priced at Rs 300, the product lists city maps and information on emergency services available in different cities, besides the addresses and telephone numbers of business establishments. Explore Technology expects to sell about 50,000 copiesof the Cd-Rom within the next one year.
Auto '98 from December 2: The fifth Indian Automobile Trade Fair will be held in Pune from December 2 to December 6 this year. The fair aims to be a showcase for Indian and foreign vehicles along with components, accessories and services available. It will also project emerging trends, innovations and developments in the sector.
BPL Mobile introduces new service: Cellular service provider BPL Mobile has introduced the Mobile Identification Number (MIN) service. This value added service offers a confidential five digit number which identifies a subscriber to the company. The MIN saves subscribers the trouble of writing a letter for accessing information on their subscription. All that the consumers are required to do is identify themselves by stating their MIN and have all their requests pertaining to mobile phone services executed. The services provided include, request for an itemised bill or a request for summarised bill, the voice mail service andthe family and friends plan.
