Thermax, AlliedSignal enter pact
Our Infrastructure Bureau
Mumbai, July 24: Thermax has entered into a strategic alliance with US-based AlliedSignal Power Systems for marketing micro-turbine based power systems in India. The latter is a subsidiary of AlliedSignal Inc, a Fortune 100 company, with an annual turnover of $14.5 billion.Called the turbogenerator, the product is designed for continuous use and has a capacity of 75 kw. This is the first time AlliedSignal is introducing a new model in India the same time as it is launched in the US market. Thermax will have exclusive rights to market and service the product in India, except for direct sales to the government sector. AlliedSignal CEO Tony Prophet has indicated that in future India might become a manufacturing base, with a high level of indigenisation. India also represents one of the top three markets worldwide for the company. According to Prophet, the company will closely watch the response to the market in India as an indicator to the success of the product. The turbogenerator incorporatesAlliedSignal's patented aerospace technologies which company officials feel will give them the edge over competitors in the genset market, estimated to be 15,000 sets a year. Initially, Thermax hopes to tap at least 10 per cent of this market. The turbogenerator, which is priced at Rs 18 lakh for 75 kw, will initially compete in the base load, UPS and standby segments. Later Thermax hopes to combine the turbogenerator with its heat recovery and absorption chilling technology. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
