July 26: Freight rates for nine-tonne vehicles are likely to remain stable in the week ahead, transporters agree. However, they see the rates increasing if there is a corresponding growth in the cargo movement.A mixed trend was witnessed in the truck rates in the last week. The rates to cities with bouyant cargo movement witnessed an increase of around 5-7 per cent. However, in the case of cities with poor cargo support and excess of vehicles, the rates took a beating by around 3-5 per cent.
In the last week, Mumbai to Delhi rates went down by Rs 500 to Rs 12,500, registering a decrease of 3.8 per cent. The truck rates to Srinagar and Baramullah also went down by Rs 500 while those to Jammu increased by Rs 500 to Rs 17,500.
The rates to Himachal Pradesh increased significantly. Mumbai to Shimla rates went up by Rs 1500 to Rs 17,500 while rates to Parmanu increased by Rs 1800 to Rs 16,200.
The truck rates to most of the cities in Haryana declined by around Rs 300 while the rates to Punjab jumped inthe range of Rs 500 to Rs 1000. The truck rates to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh fluctuated in a range of Rs 200 to Rs 1000.
In the western region, freight rates to most of the cities of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra declined over the last week.In the eastern sector, while Mumbai to Assam rates dipped by around Rs 1000. Freight rates to West Bengal increased by around Rs 800 while rates to Orissa increased in the range of Rs 200 to Rs 1000.
The poor cargo movement from Mumbai to southern states brought the truck rates down in the last week. The Mumbai to Hyderabad rates decreased to Rs 5,000, registering a Rs 1000 drop.
Mumbai to Bangalore freight rates dipped by Rs 800 to Rs 7800. The rates to Chennai and Coimbatore declined marginally by around Rs 200. The truck rates to cities in Kerala declined in the region of Rs 100 to Rs 500.
