Zydus group, Korea Green Cross in pact to make hepatitis vaccine

Mumbai, July 28: The Ahmedabad-based Zydus group has entered into a joint venture with the Korea Green Cross Corporation to manufacture and market a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine in India. The US $ 256 million Korea Green Cross Corporation is a globally renown player in the field of vaccines and biologicals.To begin with, the Zydus group will launch the hepatitis B vaccine branded, HB Vac and production is likely to commence from March 1999. The vaccine, which has been approved by the World Health Organisation, is currently marketed in 23 countries worldwide. The joint venture deal also includes the transfer of technology for the manufacture of vaccines and the training of Zydus personnel. Both companies will also explore possibilities of launching new biological and diagnostic products in future. Plans are also afoot to introduce vaccines to prevent hepatitis A, rabies, pneumonia, mumps measles rubella and haemophilia influenza type B.
