Nabard to sanction Rs 1,050 cr for handloom sector

New Delhi, Aug 6: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will sanction credit worth Rs 1,050 crore for the handloom sector, textiles minister Kashiram Rana said here on Thursday.

The new textile policy currently being drafted, is expected to address the issue of availability of finances to meet the working capital requirements of the sector.

The loan will be under Nabard's refinance scheme at concessional rate of interest. Requisite assistance will be provided under the ongoing schemes for infrastructure development by way of construction of worksheds and workshop-cum-housing, godown, quality dyeing units, processing units, sales centres, common facilities centres. During the current year, one lakh weavers will be covered through the project package this year, Rana said.
