Global Telecom signs pact with Microsoft

Global Telecom Services Ltd has entered into a broad technology alliance with Microsoft for the use of Windows NT, Microsoft Commercial Internet System and Microsoft Consultancy Services. The company will be among the first companies in the country to licence the Commercial Internet System and run a a variety of Internet-based services. Global Telecom is engaged in providing plain vanilla E-mail and E-fax services to EDI and various other E-commerce solutions.

Ultra Marine net up to Rs 1 cr in Q1:

Ultra Marine & Pigments Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 1.07 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal, as compared with Rs 73 lakh in the corresponding period last year. Total income was higher up to Rs 22.66 crore during the period, against Rs 16.32 crore in the same period last year. The company board of directors has recommended a dividend of Rs 4 per share for the year ended March 1998, against Rs 3.5 per share in the previousyear.

Anil Starch Q1 net at Rs 67 lakh:

The Ahmedabad-based Anil Starch Products Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 67.35 lakh in the first quarter of the current financial year. Gross profit stood at Rs 99.68 lakh. The company recorded a turnover of Rs 25.53 crore, according to the unaudited results released on Thursday. These figures excludes the provisions for tax, if any, including minimum alternate tax. The company has not provided the results for the corresponding period in the last fiscal.

To hike vehicle mileage:

The Bangalore-based Manish Tradeline has introduced an agro-based biomass liquid concentrate called Feacksol. This can increase the mileage and efficiency of automobile engines and motors by 30 per cent to 50 per cent. Priced at Rs 7 per pouch the company claims just 1ml of the product per litre of petrol is enough to increase the mileage of the vehicle.

Hutchison Max performance:

Hutchison Max's Ace prepaid SIM card has sold more than 1,20,000 refill slipsto its users within a year of its launch. According to the company, it holds a 75 per cent share of the prepaid SIM card market in Mumbai. The company has made the card available in about 2,000 outlets across the city and plans to increase the number of outlets to about 5,000 by the end of the year.

Essar group unveils website:

The Ruia-controlled Essar group has launched its corporate website (http://www.essar.com) which incorporates corporate information, online video's live audio news fees, database integration and annual reports from 1993. It has provisions for sending queries through e-mail that will be answered by the top management, a chat show forum and a buyer seller section enabling traders to interact with the company and among each other. It also has investor related information like annual reports of the companies that can be downloaded by the surfers.

Baan Global opens support centre:

Global software management consultancy firm Baan Company opened its maiden globalsupport centre in the country on Thursday. The new centre will provide a broad range of product support to Baan customers across the globe with web-enabled tracking, telephones, fax and e-mail technical support, company vice-president Peter Arid said.

Qantas introduces seventh flight to Mumbai:

Australian airline Qantas has introduced a seventh flight from Sydney to Mumbai via Singapore from Thursday. Traffic between India and Australia has grown by 20 per cent during the last year necessitating the introduction of a seventh Boeing 767-300 flight, Quantas manager India and s Asia Khursheed Lam said. Lam lso announced Qantas joining hands with Child Relief & You (CRY), a voluntary organisation working for the welfare of deprived children, for a community development initiative.

Binani Zinc output at 3,007 mt:

Binani Zinc has achieved a production of 3,007 million tonnes during July 1998, which is the highest in any month so far in the history of the company, a release said. This shows acapacity utilisation of 120 per cent. The company has also set a record production of 10,669 million tonnes during the first four months of the current financial year.
