Mumbai, Aug 20: BSES, the Mumbai-based power company, is likely to get a final nod from the state government for its 495mw power project at Palghar in Maharashtra shortly. Speaking about the company's future plans at its 69th annual general meeting (AGM), chairman and managing director RV Shahi said, the proposed 495mw Palghar power plant in Maharashtra has obtained all major statutory clearances from the centre and state and the final clearance was expected soon."The project has been approved by the Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board and the state irrigation department," he said. The technical committee, constituted by the state energy department, has also given a positive recommendation, he added.
The other power generation projects in the pipeline include the 160mw naphtha-based project at Kochi in Kerala, the 57mw plant at Dahej and the 108mw plant at Kheralu in Gujarat, the 250mw plant in Tamil Nadu and the 200mw plant in Andhra Pradesh. BSES has also bid for some short-gestation power projects in Maharashtra.
Apart from increasing power generation capacity, the company is also in the race for power distribution projects in Orissa, Shahi said. The Grid Corporation of Orissa has floated a global tender for privatisation of four distribution zones through the joint venture route allowing a 51 per cent stake to the venture partner, he added.
Work at the 2.5 million-tonne coal washery at Korba in Madhya Pradesh has made substantial progress and is expected to be commissioned by September this year, he said.
BSES created three new business groups in Delhi and Mumbai to pitch for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects in the domestic and international markets. The company's EPC and computer division contributed Rs 162 crore to the its revenue during the first three months of the current fiscal.
During this period, the company's net profit rose to Rs 79 crore, as compared with Rs 68 crore in the corresponding period last year. Gross profit stood at Rs 132 crore, up from Rs 117 crore.
