Maruti launches Zen diesel, priced at Rs 20,000 more than Uno in Calcutta

Calcutta, Aug 21: Maruti Udyog on Friday launched Zen-D, the diesel version of its Zen model, simultaneously in Calcutta, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. The car is priced about Rs 4.5 lakh in the city -- Rs 20,000 more than Fiat Uno's diesel version.Zen-D is powered by 1527cc TUD5 engine supplied by the French automotive major Peugeot Citroen Motors. A company release stated that the model retains all the petrol version's features. TUD5 is capable of producing 57bph and can accelerate to 60kmph in 7.57 seconds. According to A Nundy, in charge of marketing, Maruti Udyog assembled the Peugeot 309 engine and smoothened out the noise and vibration. Nundy said the features of Zen-D and Uno diesel are more or less the same but in the long run Zen-D was a better car. The launch followed a sleek audio-visual by advertisement agency Lintas.
