CHENNAI, Aug 22: The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is turning the golden leaf in its glorious history. MIT will be 50 next year. Fifty years ago MIT pioneered courses which were unfamiliar and non-conventional in engineering colleges.In this same spirit, it is starting a new ME programme in Mechatronics (Mechanical-Electronics engineering) in 1998-99.MIT's golden jubilee celebrations will be formally inaugurated on August 28.
The MIT golden jubilee committee headed by its past pupil APJ Abdul Kalam, scientific advisor to the defence minister, has chalked out various programmes to make the year a memorable one.
The committee has as members, a team of alumni nominated from all over India, the Dean of MIT, Senior Faculty from Anna University and MIT Campus.
The main highlights of the golden jubilee celebrations, besides the new ME programme, are institution of chairs and initiation of projects and research & development (R&D) activities, conduct of national and international seminars, industrialexhibitions,cultural and sports programmes, reunion of past and present alumni and faculty, construction of memorial halls, souvenir and world-wide directory.
