Rajmash hits back; g'nut oil scales new high

Delhi, Aug 25: Barring Rajmash chitra, steady-to-weak conditions were witnessed at the Delhi grains and pulses market on Tuesday.Daily arrival of wheat from the neighbouring states improved to about 15,000 bags coupled with slack demand from the South, wheat dara marked lower by Rs 10 at Rs 610-620 a quintal.

Arrival of new and old rice from Punjab and Haryana was reported about 13-15,000 bags and exporters procured about 2-3000 bags of new rice at Rs 865-925 a quintal, consequently, rice prices held steady.

Rajmash chitra recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 100 a quintal because of paucity of quality goods in the godowns while gram slipped by Rs 15 a quintal as daily arrival from Rajasthan and Haryana was of the order of 70-75 lorries. In the expectations of increased inflow of new crop goods next month, moong, moth and urad slumped by Rs 15-100 a quintal.

Castor oil flares up

According to trading sources, there was no stock of groundnut and castor oils in the wholesale mandies of Gujarat and the South, consequently, groundnut oil scaled a new high of Rs 6000, showing a sharp rise of Rs 100 a quintal and castor oil flared up by Rs 150-170 at Rs 4500 -4550 a quintal. Castor oil in Mumbai touched a high of Rs 4800 while coconut oil there was priced at Rs 4750 a quintal. Mustard, sesame and cottonseed oils recorded a gain of Rs 20-50 a quintal amid tight supply position.

On stockists selling, linseed oil slumped by Rs 50 a quintal while mahuwa oil recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 50 a quintal due to restricted supply.

Sugar improves

Following hike in octroi on sugar in Mumbai, sugar prices there started showing signs of improvement.

There was no inflow of Pak sugar, mill delivery sugar Mawana improved by Rs 3 at Rs 1451 a quintal and Sehora marked up by Rs 6 at Rs 1333 a quintal.

Scattered deamnd in mill delivery sugar Bijnore and Badayon was reported at Rs 1350 each, Chandpur at Rs 1340 and Simbhauli at Rs 1380 a quintal.Gur prices, however, remained subdued due to lack of buying support.

Inferiour zeera tumbles

Nutmeg and mace marked up by Rs 5-10 a kg. due to restricted inflow of Singapore goods. Inferior zeera tumbled down by Rs 100 a quintal on Weak Unjha advices. In dry fruits, almond Girdi Afghani revealed a firm tendency amidst tight supply position.

Silver coins unchanged

Both the precious metals, on the Delhi bullion market showed an easy tendency on Tuesday.

New York silver future slipped by 3 cents to about 512 cents an ounce coupled with inflow of imported silver on Monday, spot silver .999 plummeted by Rs 25 at Rs 7675 a kg. Silver weekly delivery also was down by Rs 25 at Rs 7755 a kg. on lack of speculative buying. Silver coins remained unaltered at Rs 10,400-10,600 per 100 pieces.

Though gold in the overseas markets held steady at $284.25 an ounce, yet, gold biscuit and standard mint gold slipped by Rs 5 at Rs 4195 and Rs 4210 per 10 gram respectively and gold sovereign also lost Rs 25 at Rs 3450-3475 per 8 gram.Jute goods weak

Jute goods market lost some of the gains achieved on Monday.

B. Twill (2 & 2,l bs) and A. Twill on Tuesday fell back by Rs 50-75 and traded at Rs 2000, Rs 2200 and Rs 2550 per 100 bags mainly due to advices received from Calcutta where B. Twill and hessians slumped and A. Twill also was marked down by Rs 100 at Rs 2300 per 100 sacks. Harapatta bardana declined by Rs 75 per 100 sacks .

Camphor lower

Camphor powder and slab marked lower by Rs 3-5 per kg. due to excess build-up of the stock in the market while its offtake was not upto mark. Mentha oil, menthol flake and bold slipped by Rs 3-10 per kg. On the other hand, DMO edged up by Rs 3 a kg. due to tight inflow. Boric acid technical was up by Rs 50 per 50 kgs. on tight supplies. Creasote oil heavy declined by Rs 6-30 per litre. Cheetah Copal varnish in 20 litres packing was priced at Rs 760 against Rs 700 per 20 litres. Other chemicals continued to lack in trading.

Metals down

Down-trend prevailed in non-ferrous metals as the paucity of money compelled the stockists to unload while consuming units demand remained sluggish.

Tin ingot and nickel plate eased by Rs 2 and aluminium coil (30 gauge) declined by Re. one per kg. In brass section, brass accessories and Brass scrap Bharat slipped by 25 paise per kg. Aluminium wire bar, however, edged up by 50 paise per kg. following tight supply position.

Shimla potato shoots up

Potato of Shimla prices shot up by Rs 50 at Rs 1000 while the smaller potato sold at Rs 500 per 80 kgs. as this variety was more in demand then the store potato. The stock at Azadpur mandi was around 100 trucks. Superior onion was marked down sharply by Rs 100 at Rs 600-650 per 40 kgs. and at the lowest level was offered at Rs 500 after the previous rates reduced the consumer offtake. The mandi today received nearly 45 trucks of onion. Mushroom also was down by Rs 10 at Rs 35-40 per kg. following excess arrival of around 5 quintals. Garlic and ginger were held at their previous rates.
