Our Bureau
Ahmedabad, Sept 2: The country's state tourism corporations, national tourism organisations of neighbouring countries, airlines, hospitality industry majors and travel agencies will participate in the international Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) in Ahmedabad from September 17 to September 20.

While the last fair just concluded in Calcutta on August 24, the next one will be held in Mumbai from February 25 to February 28, 1999.

Fairfest Media and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL), co-sponsors of TTF '98 will introduce Mauritius, Dubai, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Nepal and various places of tourist interest in India and try promote tourism in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. They will also project `Destination Gujarat' for family-friendly holidays.

TCGL managing director Jayant Parimal told The Financial Express on Wednesday that the centre has increased the outlay for government-sponsored tourism projects in the state from Rs 1.20 crore during the last fiscal to Rs 4.10 crore in the current year. Theyinclude sound & light shows at the Somnath temple, coastal cruise, development of archaeological sites at Dholavera (Kutch) and dinosaur fossil park at Balasinor (Banaskantha).

A member of the India Trade Promotion Organisation and the India Convention Promotion Bureau, Fairfest Media had been organising TTFs only in Calcutta since 1989. Lately, it has now decided to stage TTFs at other centres before the India-outbound market, which is projected to grow from 3 million at present to 20 million by 2005.
