Ipca registers 15.5% increase in sales: Ipca Laboratories has registered a 15.5 per cent increase in sales to Rs 104 crore for the first four months of the current fiscal, against Rs 90 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. A company release issued after the annual general meeting at Mumbai on Thursday, said an effective cost rationalisation policy especially in the case of bulk drugs had yielded good results with the bottomline improving by almost 25 per cent in the first four months. On the international front, the company is consolidating its presence in the bulk drugs and intermediates market in the US and Europe. It is in the process of setting up non-trading representative offices in the UK, US, Khazakhstan and Azerbaijan.Indo Mobil, Maruti Udyog sign pact:: Indo Mobil Ltd has entered into an agreement with Maruti Udhyog Ltd (MUL) to provide Mobil lubricants for the new Zen Diesel. As per the agreement, MUL will use Mobil Delvac high performance multi for lubricating the newly launched Zen Diesel. This is the first partnership of its kind between the two companies. According to Indo Mobil, it was hopeful of extending the relationship to other vehicles from the Maruti stable in the future.
Lanbit India modems:: Lanbit India, an associate company of Allion of Taiwan, has launched a new range of modems in the country. These include internal, external and PCMIA modems for use in desktops as well as notebook computers. According to the company, the modems have received approvals under public telephone companies rules from 17 countries in Europe and other parts of the world. The range also has approvals from the US-based National Software Testing Laboratories.
Tektronix printer plant:Tektronix announced its plans to establish a 160,000 sq ft color printer manufacturing plant at Penang in Malaysia to reduce the manufacturing cost of its Phaser (R) color printers. The plant will be functional in the next one and half years. Tektronix will continue to manufacture its solid ink printers at the company's headquarters in Wilsonville, Oregon.
DGP Windsor turns around:DGP Windsor India Ltd, manufacture of plastic processing machinery, has recorded a 18 per cent rise in turnover to Rs 142 crore for the year ended June 30, 1998. Net profit stood at Rs 2.42 crore, as compared with a loss of Rs 2.92 crore the previous year. The board had proposed to pay a dividend of Rs 1 per share.
Sparr Electronics server:The Bangalore-based Sparr Electronics Ltd (SEL) has introduced a low-cost Internet access server called Celer Acces which provides simultaneous web connection to LAN users. According to a company release, the Celer Access supports DTE speeds up to 460 kbps. The server is easy to install and also has powerful management utilities to monitor and control usage of server. The main advantage of the Celer is that it eliminates the need for additional phone lines and modems that companies may have to incur for Internet access.
Tata-IBM laser printer:: Tata-IBM on Thursday unveiled the InfoPrint 20, a 20-page per minute workgroup laser printer. Featuring true Adobe PostScript 3 and large format printing capabilities at a low cost, it is ideally designed for medium-to-large workgroups with support for general business, desktop publishing and graphic arts applications. The InfoPrint 20 marks the entry-point of the InfoPrint family, a product-line which extends to printers that provide output at 1,002 impressions per minute, a company release said.
BPL Telecom cyber-cafe: BPL Telecom's information technology division has conceptualised, designed and developed the first-ever cyber-cafe for an international medical conference organised by the Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy (SMIT) in London. Opened on Thursday, it will enable delegates to browse through the latest research work accepetd for the conference. The SMIT explores how patients can be treated without need for major surgery.
Sun Microsystems launches business critical server: Sun Microsystems on Thursday announced the launch of its Enterprise 250 server - E/250 - in the country. Positioned as a business critical server at an affordable price it is targeted at small and medium-size enterprises. In addition to delivering a robust and affordable solutions it will have new remote management capabilities and also simple upgrades to larger systems, a company release said.
20th Century Finance plans:20th Century Finance Corporation (TCFC) plans to enter the two-wheeler finance segment for motorcycles and scooters of 100cc and above. In addition it will extend its two-wheeler finance schemes in Calcutta, Jamshedpur and Bubhaneshwar. Initially launched in February in the south the finance scheme was extended to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra later.
