PUNE, Sept 3: Modi Xerox launched the `Document Centre' in the country at Pune on Wednesday. The `document centre' is an integrated digitally connected copier, printer, fax and scanner which offers Internet connectivity. It marks the emergence of Modi Xerox as a computer peripheral and software company. The national launch was held in Pune since the first four orders for the product were from city and the surrounding region, company regional sales manager Bhuvan Kulshreshtha said. Modi Xerox expects sales of 1,500 machines by December 1998, going up to 5,000 in 1999. Once the company achieves sales of 5,000, it will begin the local manufacture of toners. The modular, customised equipment is priced between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, depending on its features. It was launched globally by Xerox in April 1998. It is based on `Centreware', a Xerox-developed software which allows access to the full power of all machines functions to the desktop of the user. The aim is to increase employee productivity in offices, Kulshreshtha said.
The document centre has a standard memory of 32 mb ram, a 2GB hard disk storage and is capable of scanning, printing, copying images at speeds of 20 and 30 pages per minute respectively, using output sizes of A5 to A3 in either simplex or duplex.
