Arhar flares up on upcountry advices; potato suffers

Delhi, Sept 5: Barring maida and suji, steady to firm conditions were noticed on the Delhi grains and pulses market on Saturday.

On encouraging MP advices, quality arhar, flared up by Rs 75 at Rs 2100 a quintal and dal arhar recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 50-100 at Rs 2450-2900 a quintal.

During last month, dal arhar was priced at Rs 2375-2700 a quintal. Limited quantity of new rajmash chitra arrived from Maharashtra which fetched a price of Rs 3200 a quintal.

Wheat dara prices held steady as daily arrival dipped to 10000-12000 bags. Roller flour mill atta looked up by Rs 10 at Rs 595 per bag on strong demand from flood affected areas of U.P. while maida and suji slipped by Rs 5 per bag due to weak demand.

Arrival of non-basmati rice from Haryana was reported about 15000-16000 bags.Demand in rice permal from exporters was reported good at Rs 981-1000 a quintal as one steamer of rice was being loaded at Kakinada port.

Groundnut oil spurts

The Centre has assigned the task of probingadulteration in mustard oils to CBI, market men heaved a sigh of relief. On the other hand traders were not happy as Delhi government decided to revive stock ceiling as well as licence traders.

However, groundnut oil recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 200 at Rs 6100 a quintal as supply line was totally shattered and cottonseed oils also revealed a firm tendency. Vanaspati of a local mill was not available in the market because of ban. Groundnut oil refined ruled firm at Rs 940-1040, palmolein and soyabean oil refined at Rs 640-675 and sunflower refined oil ruled firm at Rs 725-810 a tin.

Sugar dips

In the wake of sluggish demand from local as well upcountry bulk buyers, mill delivery M. grade sugar dipped to Rs 1310-1426 from Rs 1315-1430 a quintal. Similarly spot sugar slipped by Rs 5-10 at Rs 1450-1550 a quintal.

Tamarind slumps

Tamarind slumped by Rs 50-100 a quital as demand from Eastern Indian buyers remained poor because of floods. Similarly, on stockists selling, zeera suffered asharp setback of Rs 100 a quintal. Stock of turmeric at Erode was reported about 3 lac bags. Among dry-fruit, copra flared up by Rs 50 a quintal on firm Tiptur advices.

Twills rise

In a steady to rising market Harapatta B.Twill and A.Twill registered uprise of Rs 25-50 per 100 bags following higher advices from Calcutta and sharply reduced inflow from the producing market. In Hessinas also the market moved up by Rs 5-10 per 91.5 meters. Twines and old gunny bags were held at the previous firm level of prices.

Cotton yarn unchanged

Cotton yarn prices were mostly unchanged and the market sentiment remained dull.

However waste yarn No.2 displayed a rise of Rs 1-3 per bundle mainly due to closer of mills in Southern states which resulted in reduced inflow of the yarn to the markets.

Cotton prices slumped as the stockists unloaded following better crop prospects news. Deshi and J-34 cotton declined by Rs 25-75 per mound in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab mandies.

Chemicalsdull

Chemicals market was silent as no major trade activities were noticed and the prices remained dull at the previous level.

The market was in want of local and upcountry buyers

Tin ingot moves up further

Tin ingot moved up further by Rs 3 at Rs 366 per kg. on tight ready availability of the metal while the local demand increased. Nickel plate on steady LME advices marked up further by Rs 4-5 per kg.

Aluminium coil 20, 30 and 36 guage eased by Rs 1 per kg. Other metals were unchanged.

Potato declines

Potato prices continued downward march in the local vegetables market following increasing pressure of arrival as the farmers of UP have also begun to bring out their old stock after the new crop from Karnataka commenced in the markets. New potato fell by Rs 50 as Karnataka variety sold at Rs 750-850 and Shimla at Rs 400-750 per 80 ks. The inflow of potato to Azadpur mandi was quit higher on Saturday at around 170 trucks, of which 100 trucks were of old stock.

Onion heldsteady as nearly 35 trucks arrivals were well consume. In garlic though the arrivals declined from 800 bags to around 400 bags the market managed the previous prices as the sales were quite good.

Ginger of Dehradoon and Saiya arrived about 9 trucks and were sold at previous rates. Mashroom slipped by Rs 5 at Rs 45-50 per kg.
