Disinvestment list may be expanded
Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday said that his ministry is looking into the possibility of expanding the list of public sector undertakings for disinvestment and strategic sale. Sinha added that other "innovations" relating to PSU disinvestment are also being looked at.

TRAI moots hike in telecom services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has proposed a steep hike in rentals for both basic and cellular services while recommending a sharp reduction in ISD, STD and airtime charges. The across-the-board restructuring in telecom tariffs also includes increase in local call and paging charges.

Kakinada port project awarded to International Seaports-led consortium
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided, in principle, to award the Kakinada port project to a consortium of three companies led by International Seaports Ltd (ISPL). The other two companies in the consortium include the L&T and the Precious Shipping Ltd of Thailand. However, the agreement between the state government and the combine is yet to be signed as the latter has not yet responded to the draft agreement.

Cabinet okays changes in Forward Contracts Act, allows options in goods
The Union Cabinet has approved the proposed amendments to the Forward Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1952 allowing "options in goods" and to provide adequate mechanism for its regulation. It has proposed to introduce an amendment bill in the next session of Parliament.
