MUMBAI, Sept 11: Pivotals reacted moderately on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on fresh selling by financial institutions and closed with small losses. FIs sold shares worth Rs 14.44 crore and bought stocks worth only Rs 6.04 crore. The S&P Cnx Nifty opened at 907.10 and closed at 899.70, showing a fall of 7.70 from the last close of 907.40. Cnx Nifty Junior declined by 24.35 to 1463.40 from the last close of 1487.75. S&P Cnx Defty fell by 6.80 to 733.50 from 740.30. S&P Cnx 500, started weak and fell further to close at 604.91, showing a fall of 6.49 from the previous level of 611.40. Cnx Midcap declined to 516.63 from 524.45.The total turnover stood at Rs 1,123.17 crore with 496.03 lakh shares changing hands in 1,66,050 trades. Debenture turnover was at Rs 9.03 lakh. About 310 scrips advanced while 633 declined and 107 held steady. Around 34 securities hit their price bands. The three top traded securities were ITC with a turnover of Rs 187.76 crore, satyamcomp Rs 134.53 crore and Reliance Rs 99.23crore. In the demat section, a total of 0.82 lakh shares valued at Rs 90.47 lakh were traded in the demat segment on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange together on Friday. On the NSE, SBI traded 14,910 shares valued at Rs 29.54 lakh in 25 trades, Hindalco traded 50 shares worth Rs 0.23 lakh in a single trade, G E shipping traded 50,006 shares valued at Rs 11.75 lakh in 2 trades and 1,001 shares of HPCL valued at Rs 3.31 lakh transacted in three trades.
On the BSE, Hindalco traded 5,000 shares valued at Rs 23.00 lakh in a single trade and ABB Ltd traded 2,500 shares valued at Rs 12.50 lakh in one trade, a national electronic settlement and transfer (nest) release said here on Friday.
Meanwhile, the global equity sell-off left a negative impact on the performance of Indian paper abroad and on the local bourses. Reflecting the lacklustre mood of the market, the BSE-30 share sensitive index continued to move in a range bound manner in the band of 3,061-3,092 points. The index finallyclosed 25 points lower at 3,083.56 points. Meanwhile, the S&P CNX Nifty index closed at 899.70, registering a net loss of 7.70 points.
Among the heavyweight stocks, HPCL was the star performer. Despite continuous bouts of sales pressed by domestic institutions, the stock closed at Rs 332, registering a smart gain of Rs 13. Domestic institutions were also rumoured to have sold considerable chunks of Smithkline Pharma, IDBI, MTNL, ACC, Satyam Computers and Pentafour Software. u
