"I like to invest in real estate and gold"

Punam Mohandas
Believe it or not, I always thought I'd be a politician, air hostess, or businesswoman when I grew up. Never thought to be an actress. Even now, I'd like to open a hotel-a 5-star hotel. So don't be surprised if you hear I've done that by the year 2006 or 2007.

Of course, my hotel will have the best food. I would like very much to open a casino-if the government grants permission. I love going to casinos.I like travelling abroad too. My favourite city is New York. I love New York, it's like Mumbai. Europe is only good for romance-should have a person to share those moments with.

The first thing I shop for is perfume. I love perfumes, especially Calvin Klein.

As a kid, I was the naughtiest child in my building, and my mother was always being called to school for complaints. Sadly, despite growing up in the same building and becoming such a big star from there, people started getting jealous of my success and would say all sorts of things. It used to hurt, and that's why I wanted a house of my own.

I gota very good signing amount for my first film Aashiq Awaara, and I saved that to buy a house. It's not my dream house--that would be right in front of the sea. I love the sea. But it's a very good house, everyone praises the interior decor. The curtains, chandeliers, are all of my choice. Of course, I do love my house, but it's not that I go abroad to pick up something for the house. How will I get it back here? Cargo mein toh khallas.I'm not a miser, nor am I a compulsive shopper. I'm in between. I feel money gives us all the necessities. Sometimes it can buy status and respect too. See the Filmfare Awards-you can buy these.

Although I'm so young, I don't really feel the need to buy things anymore. Definitely, it was there earlier, and I used to buy so much that I still have dresses in my cupboard which I have never worn.

My lifestyle has changed. Money has given me the best of things. I think money's OK. You can do lots of things with it. You should have at least some money, otherwise work hard for it. Ilike to invest in real estate, and gold as well, although even they are not very secure investments.

I'm doing fewer films now because there are hardly any good movies being made. But I am doing a lot of shows-we routinely get shows and get paid well too. Do ads, go cut a ribbon somewhere... why not, when you're getting paid in lakhs for less than a day's work.
