JSE authorities deny trading ban

MP Jain

JAIPUR, Sept 21: Reports appearing in a section of the press that the trading in the Jaipur Stock Exchange (JSE) has been suspended for a fortnight due to the ongoing computerisation work have been denied by the exchange authorities. ``We have not banned trading officially'', says J N Dhankar, executive director, JSE. If the trading operations have been very low the reason was not that the JSE authorities have stopped the same on the floor. ``Due to the poor market conditions the broker members themselves are abstaining on their own'', Dhankar said.

Curiously the trading style has changed, of late, with the members not taking the deliveries. This is due to near total absence of retail investors from the trading on the floor of the bourse.

The computerisation work in JSE was as per the directive of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. The work was scheduled to be complete by October 5 next. In about 175 new rooms of the exchange computerised networking have been done and has already been occupied bythe member brokers. JSE would also be connected with other stock exchanges through the inter-connectivity network, said Dhankar.
