Wheat goes up on poor inflow; castor oil dips slump

MUMBAI, Sept 21: Wheat presented an improved stance on the grains market.Wheat milling were traded at Rs 700-711 a quintal. Among other wheat, north Gujarat were up by Rs 10 at Rs 745-825. Saurashtra Lokvan at Rs 775-825 and SW at Rs 875-1125 held steady. MP 147 at Rs 800-900 were up by Rs 25 while Sarbati at Rs 900-1400 gained 50 in the higher segment.

Rice were maintained. Gujarat-17 ruled at Rs 1600-1700. Permal FCI and superior fetched Rs 875-925 and Rs 1250-1300 respectively. AP Kattar rice were on offer at Rs 1100-1150.

Among pulses, green peas USA ruled at Rs 1650 and Canadian at Rs 1040. White peas ready were placed at Rs 950 and October shipments at Rs 850-875. Australian gram were quoted at Rs 1360. Kabuli gram A-2 were placed at Rs 3200-3500, B-2 at Rs 2700, C-2 at Rs 2200-2300 and natural at Rs 2400-2500.Sugar gains

A steady-to-slighty better trend was noted on the sugar market on improved buying support.

Price gained Rs 5 a quintal ex-octroi checkpost. M-30 rose to Rs 1415-1425and S-30 to Rs 1390-1405. Ex-godown, M-30 at Rs 1430-1490 and S-30 at Rs 1403-1430 were steady.

In tenders, M-30 at Rs 1375-1385 and S-30 at Rs 1355-1365 were unchanged.

Gujarat cottons up

A better condition was in evidence on the cotton market due to inclement weather.

Cloudy weahter conditions in the Punjab zone imparted steadiness to the falling prices. Ready Bengal deshi were placed at Rs 1470-1485, J-34 saw-ginned good average at Rs 1700-1780 and cart-selected at Rs 1800-1950 a maund spot.

In forward, Bengal deshi October were on offer at Rs 1350-1380 and November at Rs 1280-1300. J-34 saw-ginned good average October were quoted at Rs 1710-1780 and November at Rs 1705-1715. Cart-selected J-34 saw-ginned Nomveber ruled at Rs 1790-1850.

Gujarat cottons looked up by Rs 100 a candy. V-797 rose to Rs 15,300-15,800, Morbi wagad to Rs 14,900-15,200 and kala ginned to Rs 14,500-14,600. Sanker ruled in the range of Rs 18,500-22,000.

Yarn unchanged

Trading continued to be veryrestricted on the yarn market as normalcy was yet to be restored in Surat and Bhiwandi after the recent floods.Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn ruled at Rs 224, 120dn at Rs 245, 100dn at Rs 256 and 75dn at Rs 269 a kg.

Bullion firms up

Both the precious metals placed firm on the bullion market here today. Standard gold was up by Rs 15 to Rs 4,270 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat rose by same margin to Rs 3,950 per 10gm. Gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) hardened by Rs 200 to Rs 50,300 per piece. Festival buying continued while thin overseas inflow and firm global advices kept offerings by bankers and stockists at a low ebb. In the global market the yellow metal quoted at $292.50 as against $291.60 per ounce earlier.

Silver .999 moved up by Rs 25 to Rs 7,550 per kg. Silver .916 gained by same margin at Rs 7,440 per kg. Industrial and festival demand improved at the lower level while higher Delhi and overseas advices kept local market firm. In the global market the white metalshot up from $4.98 to $5.01 per ounce.G'nut oil slides

Groundnut oil ruled weak on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil too suffered losses in the ready and forward markets.Groundnut oil slid by Rs 2 to Rs 593 per 10 kg amidst demand resistance as consumers were switched over to cheaper imported edible oils, dealers said. Arrivals however remained restricted. In Rajkot groundnut oil quoted Rs 20 higher at Rs 880/885 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil edged up by Rs 3 to Rs 389 per 10 kg.exclusive of tax. Continued bulk enquiries and upcountry demand attributed to the rise. In the global market palm oil subdued to $730 per tonne for nearby delivery and $700 for long deliveries.

Castor oil slipped further by Rs 12 to Rs 462/474 per 10 kg amidst thin overseas demand. Stockists however remained active sellers ahead of new crop supplies. Castorseed ready nosedived by Rs 57 to Rs 2,116/2,122 per quintal in sympathy.

In the futures section castorseed December delivery declined from Rs1,818.50 to Rs 1,789 per quintal. In Ahmedabad December delivery fell below Rs 1,800-mark to Rs 1,780 per quintal. Castorseed ready delivery eased to Rs 395 per 20 kg and castor oil was available at Rs 445 per 10 kg.

Copper weak

Prices of copper and brass eased on non ferrous metal market here today on lack of industrial demand coupled with weak LME advices. Elsewhere, prices ruled steady.

Copper scrap heavy closed weak at Rs.104, while copper utensils at Rs 92.75, copper wire bar at Rs 117.50 and brass scrap at Rs 85.75 also remained subdued.
