Seoul, Sept 22: Daewoo Electronics Co expects the development of its new projection display technology to contribute $3.5 billion to its annual sales five years from now, a company spokesman said.Daewoo has completed commercialisation of the technology, called thin-film micromirror array-actuated, or TMA, and plans to unveil a prototype later this month, said spokesman Park Seung-il.
He said the new device, which significantly increases the clarity of images on projector screens and can be used inside lighted conference rooms, would go on sale from early next year.
The $3.5 billion sales projection for the new product would be double the company's current revenues.
Daewoo Electronics, a unit of the Daewoo Group, has projected total sales from its current products at about five trillion won for calendar 1998, compared with 3.86 trillion won of sales in 1997.
But analysts said it was premature to project annual sales for the new screen as doubts remained over demand for the product.
They said salesforecasts would only be possible after they see actual sales performance for an initial period.
Daewoo Electronics' shares went limit up on the Korean Stock Exchange on news about the robust sales projection, closing up 330 won to 3,090.
Sister firm Daewoo Electronic Components closed up 261 won to its daily high limit of 2,430.
