TORONTO, Oct 1: Tata Consultancy Service (TCS), India's top software and information technology services company, has opened its first office in Canada. The company, which has already worked with Canadian firms for a decade, plans to open half a dozen offices in this country in the near future.At the launch ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Toronto, attended by top representatives of firms like Northern Telecom, Bell Canada, Ernst & Young, Newcourt Credit Group and IBM, as well as Indian diplomats, TCS deputy chairman Faqir Chand Kohli pointed out that TCS is today the single largest software exporter from India with projects spanning 50 countries.
TCS, formed in 1968 with its core competence being information technology (IT) and business consulting, is one of over 80 Tata companies which claim to have a turnover of US $10 billion. On the IT side alone TCS employs over 10,000 people and is soon likely to add 3,000 more, officials said. The company has strategic alliances with world leaderslike Microsoft, Oracle, IBM-Lotus, Sunsoft and Hewlett Packard. By utilising the strength of its multiple high speed dedicated satellite communication links connecting over 40 locations worldwide and video conferencing facilities, TCS creates a 24-hour trans-global work environment, said regional manager Ravi Bhatheja.
