NECL worried over coal smuggling to Bangladesh
Officers at North Eastern Coalfields Ltd (NECL) have expressed concern at the increasing smuggling of coal to Bangladesh from quarries in Meghalaya and other north eastern states. Large tracts of lands in Meghalaya having coal deposits have not been identified as mines due to the uneconomical nature of the deposits.
Maharashtra expects record kharif, rabi crops
The prolonged rainfall has come as a boon for the kharif and rabi crops in Maharashtra and the state officials expect a record production of 152 lakh tonnes -- 105 lakh tonnes kharif and 47 lakh tonnes rabi this year. A record 101% sowing of kharif crops has been completed compared with last year's 96%.
Ministry recommends technology mission to combat onion shortage
The current onion crisis in the country has forced the centre to go for a technology mission on onions, potatoes and chillies. Special support price to growers on the lines of foodgrains is also being contemplated. This would be the first technology mission for horticulture crops in the country.
