In Punjab, efforts are being made both at the individual as well as government level to bring in the best available technology. The state government has already developed an industrial estate `ELTOP' for electronic units at Mohali. For providing training to entrepreneurs, a Centre for Electronics Development & Testing (CEDT) and another centre for testing of electronic equipment (ETDC) have been set at Mohali.The Punjab government also provides a special package of incentives for expansion and intensification of manufacturing electronic units within the state which shall continue to be eligible for incentives as per the industrial policy dated July 3, 1991, vide notification dated August 13, 1996. Electronic units going for expansion/modernisation/diversification by increasing capital investment by more than 25 per cent and thus increasing the installed capacity/production by more than 25 per cent are allowed sales tax concession at par with these units on incremental production. Quantum of benefits forelectronic industries in Rajasthan is as follows: Extent of the percentage of exemption/ deferment/ of tax: New units (SSI, medium and large -- 75 per cent of tax liability; units going for expansion or diversification (25 per cent) -- 75 per cent of tax liability; sick units--50 per cent of total tax liability The Rajasthan government is also setting up an electronic hardware technology park at Kukas electronic city where apart from infrastructural facilities for industrial units, provisions for technical training institute are being proposed.
The West Bengal government is encouraging the setting up large complexes in the IT segment to ensure that the electronics industry occupies a prominent place. This will provide self-employment opportunities to the younger generation.
In these states the electronic industry has been provided with special incentives as compared to other SSI units. In the rest of the states, not covered above, i.e. Goa, Gujarat, HP, J&K, Meghalaya, Manipur, TN, Tripura and UP, SSIunits engaged in the production of electronic goods enjoy incentives and benefits enjoyed by other industries.
