PSU banks turn up noses at soiled notes
Tried exchanging a soiled or torn currency note recently? Chances are you would have thrown up your hands in despair, if you had. A survey conducted by The Financial Express at 15 Delhi banks directed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to carry out this function revealed that 12 of them refused to accept soiled notes at their cash counters.
Swaraj to replace Sahib Singh as Delhi CM
Information and broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj replaces Sahib Singh Verma as Delhi chief minister in a move by the Bharatiya Janata Party to shore up its prospects in the assembly elections next month amidst all-round criticism of the Delhi government's performance. Verma, chief minister for over two years, will step down to make way for 46-year-old Swaraj, who is to be sworn in on Sunday evening.
Foreign hi-tech immigration bill dies in US Senate
A bill that would have increased the number of US visas granted to foreign hi-tech workers died in the Senate on Friday with backers of the bill warning its demise could have dire consequences as the computer industry tries to solve the year 2000 millenium bug.
